MANILA – After leading the De La Salle University Green Archers to a UAAP crown, Jeron Teng will now hope to spearhead the AMA Online University Titans for a PBA D-League championship.
Teng, who was the top-overall pick during last December’s Rookie Draft, said he is hoping to bring his leadership and experience to the Titans, which finished at the cellar last season.
“I am excited to play for AMA. I met Coach Mark (Herrera), and we’re really positive. I can’t wait to be coached by him,” Teng said. “I’m playing for another college, so it will be exciting for me.”
“I played five years for La Salle, and hopefully, lahat nang natutunan ko sa La Salle, I can apply it and pass it forward to my other teammates in AMA,” added Teng, who recently inked a one-conference deal with the Titans.
Herrera, for his part, said he is more than excited to have a quality player like Teng in the Titans, which will still have veterans Jay-R Taganas and Ryan Arambulo in the upcoming season.
“Jeron is still in shape and he still has the same intensity like what he had in Game 2 (of the UAAP Finals). He’s also very coachable,” Herrera said. “I still can’t see any point of concern for him because he’s an all-around player.”
Teng averaged 17.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as he helped the Green Archers capture the UAAP Season 79 title, as well as being named the Finals Most Valuable Player.
“It’s a way for me to prepare for the big league, for the PBA,” Teng said. “Going into the PBA, ‘di mo rin alam kung sino ang makakasama ko, so it’s a good stepping stone for me. I think I’ll be able to learn a lot in the D-League that I can apply to my future career.”/PN
