BACOLOD City – An instructor for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) was shot dead in a barber shop in Barangay Zone 12, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Police were still trying to identify the suspect and determine the motive.
His fellow teachers described the 57-year-old Elias Redel as a good man, said Superintendent Adonis Rosales, Talisay City police chief.
Redel, a resident of Carmela Homes Subdivision, Barangay Zone 12, Talisay City, was shot point-blank, police said. He was taken to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital where he was declared “dead on arrival.”
Barber Joel Alviar said an unidentified man entered the barbershop around 6:30 p.m. on Monday and shot the victim on the head using a .45 pistol.
At the time Redel was reading a newspaper while waiting for his turn, as there were three other customers ahead of him, Alviar told the police. He added the victim was a regular customer.
Other witnesses said the suspect casually walked away.
An empty shell and a live bullet for a .45 pistol were found at the crime scene./PN
