BACOLOD City – Task Force Kasanag (TFK) is willing to facilitate localized peace talks among the New People’s Army (NPA), the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Police Regional Office 18 (PRO-18).
TFK national commander John Chiong said this even after the government cancelled the peace negotiations with the Communist Party of the Philippines on July 19.
On July 21, six policemen and a civilian were killed in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental.
In a statement, the NPA claimed responsibility for the attack.
The rebel group alleged that the Guihulngan police were involved in corrupt activities and other crimes.
Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, PRO-18 director, described the attack as “barbaric and treacherous.”
Gonzales said those killed were good men and had no criminal record.
Chiong, a peace advocate, said the peace talks will stop the killings and retain order in Negros.
He added that the TFK is taking initiatives to protect civilians./PN
