NEGROS Occidental – Joint elements of the Philippine National Police and Philippine Army arrested three wanted persons for violations of Section 8 (ii), of Republic Act (RA) No. 10168, or The Terrorism Financing Prevention and Suppression Act of 2012.

Led by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, the first operation was carried out around 4:10 p.m. on January 2 in Barangay 1, La Carlota City.

The 41-year-old alias “Dharyl”, a resident of Barangay 3, Isabela town, was caught through the strength of an arrest warrant.

The second operation at around 8:23 p.m. resulted to the arrest of alias “Perla”, 57, in Barangay Man-uling, Cauayan, and at 9 p.m., authorities apprehended alias “Pedring”, 63, at his residence in Purok Pandan, Barangay Pagayon, Pulupandan town.

Authorities said the three accused were members of the Paghidaet sa Kauswagan Development Group, Inc. based in Kabankalan City. They allegedly used the said organization for their terrorism financing activities.

They were charged before the Department of Justice for violations of the provisions of RA No. 10168 last year.

The suspects are currently under police custody for proper disposition.

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, director of the Police Regional Office 6, commended the operating units for the successful case build-up leading to the filing of the anti-terrorism financing charges before the proper court.

“Terrorism financing remains the single, most utilized strategy by the CPP-NPA-NDF in their desperate bid to overthrow our democratic government. Also, it is their life blood to support their operations. Cutting the source of funds and prosecuting those who facilitate the generation of these funds will finally put an end to the CPP-NPA-NDF,” said Wanky.

He added: “The Filipino people must understand that terrorism financing is a crime against humanity itself. It enables terrorists to kill, destroy, and create chaos in society and we cannot allow them to victimize our people.”/PN
