MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws kept their unbeaten record in the UAAP Season 80 women’s beach volleyball on Friday at the Sands by the Bay in Pasay City.

Cherry Rondina and Caitlyn Viray of UST – the defending champion – notched their third win after a 22-20, 21-15 sweep of Ateneo Lady Eagles’ Bea de Leon and Jules Samonte.

Sobrang kulang pa, kulang pa kami sa mind-set,” said Rondina. “But I always think po na kung ’di ko kaya or ’di niya (Viray) kaya, nagdadalahan kami. We got each other’s back.”

Negrense Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza of Lady Tamaraws also won against De La Salle University Lady Spikers’ Ernestine Tiamzon and May Luna 21-23, 21-13, 15-10.

In other matches, University of the East Lady Warriors’ Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat barged into the win column after a 21-14, 71-21, 15-11 escape over Ilongga Roma Doromal and Audrey Paran of National University Lady Bulldogs.

Bacolodnon Arielle Estranero and Diana Carlos of University of the Philippines Lady Maroons notched their second victory in three matches after defeating Adamson Lady Falcons’ Bernadette Flora and Chrislyn Uy 21-13, 23-21.

In the men’s action, defending champion UST Tiger Spikers’ Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto tallied their second win in as many matches after a 21-14, 21-12 sweep of Adamson Falcons’ Paolo Pablico and John Yude.

Meanwhile, FEU Tamaraws stunned Ateneo Blue Eagles 21-9, 15-21, 15-12. NU Bulldogs defeated UE Red Warriors 21-14, 21-20, while UP Maroons downed DLSU Green Spikers 21-17, 21-12./PN
