SAN JOSE, Antique – Ten municipalities will benefit from P192 million worth of tourism development projects to be carried out from 2018 to 2022.
The projects — involving mostly access roads to tourism sites — are initiated by the Public Works and Tourism departments and Rep. Paolo Everardo S. Javier.
Covered municipalities include this capital town, Sibalom, San Remigio, Sebaste, Culasi, Libertad, Pandan, Anini-y, Valderrama, and Barbaza.
A boulevard/esplanade, along with hotels, inns and beach resorts, will be built in San Jose.
With an estimated cost of P160,000,000, it covers the construction of an 8-kilometer (km) coastal road from Barangay Comon to Barangay San Pedro that will lead to tourist destinations along coastal areas.
In Sibalom, the Barangay Pasong-Igmitaw Road will be built with a P60-million budget. The 3-km road toward the foot of Mt. Porras is part of the development of the Mt. Muntogawi Camping Site and Pilgrimage/Shrine.
In San Remigio, a circumferential road from Barangay Aningalan to the Igbaclag Cave will be built with a P60-million allocation, while in Sebaste, the 3-km road to Igpasungaw Falls was allotted another P60 million.
In Culasi, the proposed jetty port in Mararison Island has a P50-million budget, while the 5-km road leading to Mt. Madja-as (Barangay Camancijan to Barangay Alojipan) and the 100-meter (m) hanging bridge have P100 million.
Some P74 million was also allocated for the circumferential road in Lipata Port, also in Culasi.
In Libertad, the sunken garden in Punta Pucio was allotted P96 million, while the 3-km road in Barangay Union toward Maanghit Cave has P60 million.
In Pandan, a 350-m gravel road in Barangay Duyong toward Duyong Beach Resort will also be built, while a jetty port will be constructed in Anini-y for P50 million to allow easier access to Nogas Island.
In Valderrama, an access road in Barangay Binanogan toward Villa Valderrama was allotted P70 million.
Lastly, in Barbaza, the Mablad-Lumboyan road will be paved for easier access to Mt. Nangtud, Antique’s highest peak. It shall pass through Macalbag Falls, Lolita Falls in Barangay Cadiao, and Bugsukan Falls in Barangay Lumbuyan.
Similar projects have been completed in 2015 and 2016: the 5.5-km Tibiao Eco-Adventure Park access road (P110 million) and the 4-km Barangay Sto. Rosario-Malumpati road in Pandan toward Bugang River and Malumpati Health Spring (P80 million).
Still ongoing are the 15-km road from Barangay San Antonio, Culasi toward the foot of Mt. Madja-as (P80 million) and the 21-km Villahermosa-Imparayan-Cabladan and Sitio Apong road in Sibalom town (P140 million). (With a report from Leah Marlie P. Tambanillo/PN)
