ILOILO City – Police arrested a truck driver possessing an unlicensed firearm yesterday in Barangay Poblacion, Leganes, Iloilo.
They seized from a .45 Caspian pistol, a magazine and four live bullets from the 40-year-old Aciselo Fernandez of Barangay Badlan Grande, Calinog town.
The operation at around 3:30 a.m. was part of the police’s crackdown on loose firearms dubbed “Operation Bakal.”
Fernandez, who was temporarily residing in Barangay Guihaman, Leganes, was drinking at Florence Videoke House prior to his arrest, said Senior Inspector Dadje Delima, municipal police chief.
Upon seeing police officers, Fernandez hurriedly left to ride his motorcycle but his drunkenness caused him to fall to the ground, revealing the firearm tucked under his shirt, Delima said.
Fernandez was detained at the Leganes police station and facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
He admitted to Panay News that he owned the unlicensed firearm. He said he was carrying it for “security purposes.”
Police said the pistol will be turned over to the regional headquarters for ballistic verification and classification. (With Ruby Silubrico/PN)
