ILOILO City – A total of 11 houses in the City Proper were hit by two separate fires in the morning and afternoon yesterday.

Fire struck five houses in Barangay Concepcion in the morning. Three of these were totally gutted.

The blaze started past 5:30 a.m.

According to Chief Inspector Melania Habawel, city fire marshal, the totally razed houses were owned by Lilia Domingo, Patrick Laurente and Asarenas Jaca.

The fire started at Domingo’s house and caused by an electrical short circuit, said Habawel.

“Our investigators found out that the house had small electrical wirings,” she revealed.

The two partially damaged houses belonged to Odel Obela and Eduardo Dela Cruz.

As this was being written, the city’s fire bureau was yet to come up with an estimate of the damage.

No person died or got injured in the fire.

In the afternoon, some 12 hours after the morning blaze, fire hit six houses in Barangay Gloria. The Bureau of Fire Protection received a fire call at around 5:25 p.m.

As of this writing, a mop up operation was ongoing.

It was unclear yet what caused the afternoon fire and where it started./PN
