ILOILO City – Operatives of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested two high-value individuals (HVIs) and seized around 85 grams of suspected shabu valued at approximately P578,000, during a buy-bust operation in Jaro district on March 9.
The operation took place at around 6:15 p.m. in River Plains Subdivision, Barangay Lanit, and led to the arrest of aliases “Sherwin,” 44, a local butcher, and “Jemar,” 39, a married construction worker. Both suspects are residents of the subdivision and were previously tagged as HVIs in the region’s intensified anti-illegal drug campaign.
The buy-bust was conducted by the Iloilo City Police Office – City Drug Enforcement Unit (ICPO-CDEU) with support from the Regional Intelligence Unit 6, ICPO’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Regional Police Security Battalion – Lanit Team, and ICPO Station 3 Drug Enforcement Team.
Police recovered eight transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, the buy-bust money, and other non-drug-related items.
The suspects are now in the custody of Iloilo City Police Station 3 and will face charges for violations of Sections 5 in relation to Section 26 and 11 of Republic Act 9165.
Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, PRO-6 director, praised the operatives for their dedication and the strong coordination among police units.
He also called on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing that community participation is essential in sustaining the gains of the anti-drug campaign in Western Visayas./PN
