UniGames: Bago City runner reaps 5 golds for UST

A NATIVE of Bago City, Negros Occidental playing for the University of Santo Tomas capped off her campaign in the 2018 Philippine University Games athletics with six medals, including five golds, on Friday in Dumaguete City.

Louielyn Cabuga Pamatian captured gold medals in women’s 400m and 800m run, classical, 4x100m, and 4x400m relay. She captured a silver medal in 1,500m.

Pamatian teamed up with Aklanon Alyssa Andrade, Rosnani Pamaybay and Karen Janario in the 4x100m relay, while she was with Negrense Jessa Mae Jarder, Jie Anne Calis and Pamaybay in the 4x400m relay.

Finishing with six medals in six events did not stop the 21-year-old Pamatian from having mixed emotions – this will be her last time competing for the UST.

“[I’m] happy that I was able to win a medal in all my six events but at the same time medyo malungkot din since this is my final year of playing with UST not just in UniGames but also sa UAAP,” said the two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player.

“So after nitong UniGames diretso na ako sa preparation for UAAP athletics (scheduled next month),” she added. “I hope to help the team win the overall championship once again.”

The UST women’s athletics team again won as UniGames overall champion while the men’s team settled for second runner-up./PN
