BEACH volleyball teams of University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod had runner-up finishes in the 2018 Philippine University Games on Saturday in Dumaguete City.

UNO-R Lady Rams’ pair of Alexa Pacheco Polidario and Jenny Mar Senares failed to defend the women’s title after losing to University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses’ Babylove Barbon and Genesa Eslapor.

On their way to the finals, Polidario and Senares defeated University of Mindanao-Davao, Rizal Technological University, University of Mindanao-Tagum, and University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas in the eliminations.

In the semifinals Polidario and Senares ousted Polytechnic University of the Philippines while the Golden Tigresses reached the finale at the expense of the Lady Altas.

On the men’s side, Herold Parcia and Bongskie Hojilla of USLS-Bacolod salvaged a bronze medal after defeating University of Mindanao-Tagum.

Parcia and Hojilla were relegated to the battle-for-third place game after losing to eventual champions UST Tiger Spikers’ EJ Dimaculangan and Jaron Requinton in the semifinal round.

“I am delighted of the boys’ third place finish,” said USLS-Bacolod head coach Jon Mar Aguillon. “We participated here to experience playing in the University Games, so taking home a bronze medal is a bonus.”/PN
