MANILA – University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses and De La Salle University Lady Spikers advanced to the semifinals of 2017 Philippine University Games women’s volleyball after sweeping their elimination round matches in Dumaguete City.

The defending champions Golden Tigresses notched its fourth win in Bracket A following a 25-17, 25-15, 25-18 win over University of St. La Salle-Bacolod behind the impressive performances of Ennajie Laure and Cherry Rondina on Thursday.

Reigning UAAP women’s volleyball champions Lady Spikers also ended their Bracket B campaign with 4-0 win-loss card after a 25-16, 25-21, 25-13 victory over University of Mindanao-Davao.

In other results, College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers cruised to a 25-7, 25-14, 25-23 win over University of Mindanao-Tagum, while Arellano University Lady Chiefs edged University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 19-25, 25-15, 24-26, 25-15, 15-9.

On the other hand, University of St. La Salle Bacolod advanced to the semifinals of men’s football following a 2-1 victory over College of St. Benilde Blazers at the Gov. Mariano Perdices Memorial Coliseum.

The Ceres-Negros-backed USLS will battle National University Bulldogs, which ousted University of the Philippines Maroons, 1-0, in the gold medal match this afternoon at Siliman University Football Field.

In men’s chess, Jose Maria College captured the championship following a 2.5-1.5 victory over STI-West Negros University in the finals. Holy Angel University ended up at third place.

Over at the distaff side, De La Salle University defeated Jose Maria College in the final round, 3.5-0.5. Jose Maria College finished at second place followed by Jose Maria College./PN
