ILOILO City – Three newly completed school buildings were inaugurated on June 11 as part of a P227.3-million educational infrastructure program of Uswag Ilonggo Party-list’s Rep. James “Jojo” Ang, aimed at addressing classroom shortages and improving learning conditions in public schools across the city.
The newly opened facilities include a three-story, six-classroom building at Uswag San Isidro Elementary School in Jaro district, another three-story, six-classroom building at Iloilo Central Elementary School, and a four-story, eight-classroom building at Fort San Pedro National High School.
The projects form part of eight school building developments initiated by Ang in the city’s seven districts, underscoring his commitment to strengthening the education sector through modern and disaster-resilient facilities.
“These classrooms are investments in our children’s future. Every Ilonggo learner deserves a safe, comfortable, and conducive environment where they can study and succeed,” Ang said during the inauguration.
The three completed structures comprise the first batch of projects under the program, which carries a total cost of approximately P227.3 million.
Construction of the remaining school buildings in other districts is ongoing.
Education officials and local stakeholders welcomed the completion of the projects, saying the additional classrooms would help decongest public schools and provide better learning spaces for students and teachers.
Designed to withstand natural disasters and accommodate increasing enrollment, the new facilities are expected to enhance both the quality and accessibility of public education in Iloilo City.
Ang said the infrastructure initiative reflects a long-term commitment to improving educational opportunities for Ilonggo youth, stressing that investments in education remain essential to the city’s future growth and development./PN
