MANILA – The Creamline Cool Smashers barged into the win column of the 2017 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference after a 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 sweep over the Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers on Thursday night at the San Juan Arena.
Three-time league MVP Alyssa Valdez led the way with 21 points, on 18 attacks and three service aces, for the Cool Smashers, which moved up to second place with a 1-1 win-loss slate.
Ivy Remulla chipped in 17 markers, while Alexis Cabanos contributed 20 excellent sets for the Cool Smashers, which bounced back from an opening day loss to the Perlas Lady Spikers (23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21).
“Mas maganda ‘yung service receive namin,” said Cool Smashers assistant coach Sherwin Meneses. “Hindi pa namin kabisado ‘yung isa’t isa. Pero kita naman na sa team nandoon na ‘yung kagustuhan manalo. Kailangan lang ng chemistry.”
In the other match, the Bali Pure Water Defenders stretched its immaculate record to three with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-16 domination over defending champion Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.
Gretchel Soltones spearheaded the attack with 20 points for the Water Defenders, which is on its best start in the league. Myla Pablo, meanwhile, had 10 points for the Lady Warriors, which dropped to 0-2.
Jocemer Tapic fired 11 hits while May Ann Pantino and Mae Antipuesto combined for 17 markers for the Jet Spikers, which went on a loss-win-loss run to start the 14th season of the country’s longest running volley league./PN
