BACOLOD City – Three people perished in separate vehicular crashes in Silay and Bago cities, Negros Occidental. Two others were injured.
One of those killed was the 28-year-old Francis Celiz of Barangay 2, Silay City. He was driving the motorcycle that hit a gmelina tree on the center island of the national highway in Barangay Guinhalaran, also in Silay, around 4:30 a.m. on June 20, police said.
The crash threw Celiz off the vehicle. He fell on the road 7 meters away from his vehicle.
A street cleaner brought him to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead. He sustained internal injuries, police said.
In Barangay Calumangan, Bago City, two residents of Kabankalan City – including a seafarer – were killed in a smashup that involved a tractor unit, a Hyundai Eon and a tricycle along a national highway.
The 26-year-old seaman Nelio Daguio, who was driving the Hyundai Eon, and the 70-year-old Lawrence Cavile, who was on the passenger seat, died of head and body injuries.
They were declared dead in a Bago City hospital, police said.
Alexander Cavile, 56, who was sitting at the back seat, and tricycle driver Ardie Jalea, 38, of Barangay Calumangan, were injured. They were taken to the same hospital in Bago.
Tractor driver Richard Alvarez, 29, of Barangay Luna, Cadiz City surrendered to the police.
Around 9:20 a.m. on June 20, the tricycle was slowing down to make a left turn when the succeeding tractor hit its rear.
This caused the tricycle to swerve and the tractor to collide into the Eon, which was running the opposite direction (it was headed to Bacolod from Kabankalan at the time), police investigation showed.
