ILOILO City – Thirty-eight heads of day-old broiler chicks were seized from a resident of Zone 8, Barangay Veterans Village, City Proper.
The 38-year-old Jovannie Cercado, who allegedly stole the chicks from a cargo in Fort San Pedro, was placed under citizen arrest, a police report showed.
Aigie Dela Rosa, 25, of Barangay Patag, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo and two Fort San Pedro security guards turned Cercado over to the police.
Cercado placed the chicks – worth P1,710 – in a black backpack, which the arresting civilians surrendered to the officers.
It turned out Cercado was not alone. Dela Rosa told the officers he saw a suspected cohort – clad in orange T-shirt and short pants – who also took some chicks, placed them in his shirt and escaped, the police report stated.
The alleged theft happened around 8:20 a.m. on Aug. 13.
Cercado was detained at Police Station 1. Police have yet to identify and catch the other suspect as of this writing./PN
