BACOLOD City – The city government of Victorias in Negros Occidental has adopted 20 impounded dogs from Bacolod City.

Based on the information from the City Veterinary Office, Bacolod’s dog pound has more than 90 canines in its 100-square-meter area, when it can only shelter around 30 to 40.

Victorias, meanwhile, has just inaugurated its city-owned and managed 500-square-meter dog pound, which can cater to at least 100 canines.

Last week, the adoption was made through the initiative of Victorias City mayor Javi Benitez, Bacolod City veterinarian John Michael Cabuguason, PAWSsion Project, and BACH Project PH.

According to the PAWSsion Project, the 20 dogs will be rehabilitated, vaccinated, dewormed, and neutered.

“You can tell they’re much happier because they’re smiling and wagging their tails. The Victorias City Government will take care of their needs, including rehabilitation and vaccination. And then they’ll be up for adoption. We need your help to sustain these dogs financially or adopt them so they may find a new home,” Benitez said.

The BACH Project PH, in their social media account, stated, “We are profoundly grateful to Mayor Javi Benitez for opening the Victorias Dog Shelter to the impounded dogs of Bacolod, where they will undergo rehabilitation until they are ready to be adopted into new loving homes.”/PN
