BACOLOD City – A man who allegedly tried to steal a battery of a multicab in Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was shot dead, a police report showed.
The 35-year-old Arnel Arroyo of Victorias City sustained a gunshot wound on the head and was rushed to the Cadiz City Emergency Clinic where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”
According to investigators, multicab owner and Civilian Volunteer Organization member Joan Banhaw, 29, caught Arroyo stealing the battery around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Arroyo – who was temporarily residing in Villa Cristina, Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz City – drew a .38-caliber gun but Banhaw managed to disarm him.
That was when Banhaw shot Arroyo, police said.
Banhaw was arrested and detained at the Cadiz City police station lockup facility.
