ANTIQUE – Two persons were shot in Barangay P. Javier, Sebaste town in this province around 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
Barangay captain Bernabe Antonio, 66, and tanod Jose Boy Castro, 44, both sustained a gunshot wound on the forehead, said Captain Harry Jhun Amar, officer-in-charge of the Sebaste Municipal Police Station (MPS).
They were brought to Sebaste Community Hospital but Antonio, who was in critical condition, was transferred to a hospital in Kalibo, Aklan for proper treatment.
According to Amar, while the Antonio family, including Castro, was celebrating the village’s chief’s birthday and graduation of his child, gunshots were suddenly heard.
“Naga-celebrate tanda… gainom-inom sila didto sa garahe nanda upod man nanda ang bata nila kag relatives didto. Dugay-dugay kuno hinali lang may naglupok halin sa kudal sang ila nga compound. Naigu si kap kag ang iya nga barangay tanod kay gatupad ni sila sa bangko. Si kap natumba dayon kag ang tanod,” Amar said in an interview.
According to Antonio’s son who chased after the unidentified gunman, the latter immediately fled towards barangay’s mountainous area and even tried to shoot him, too.
Old grudge was seen as the motive in the shooting, Amar said.
As of this writing, Sebaste police were still investigating the incident to identify the gunman./PN
