‘Walk the talk in PNP’: Sinas says no tolerance vs erring cops

MANILA – Newly-appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief major general Debold Sinas has a stern warning that there will be zero tolerance against their personnel who will be involved in corrupt practices.

Lagi nating tandaan ang ating sinumpaang tungkulin bilang tagapagpatupad ng batas,” Sinas said during his speech at the PNP’s change-of-command ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.“We should walk the talk in the PNP.”

“Any member of the PNP who will be involved in corrupt practices will not be tolerated and will be immediately investigated and dismissed from police service if found guilty,” he added.

Meanwhile, the new chief has urged the public to move on from the “mañanita” issue as it was already being investigated.

In an interview with CNN Philippines on Tuesday, Sinas said has already answered the criminal and administrative cases filed against him regarding the supposed quarantine protocol violation.

Dapat tuldukan na natinyung issue nayan. And let’s move on. Investigation has been going on,” Sinas said. “Ang kaso po nasa prosecutor po ng Taguig and we’re waiting sa desisyon. The admin case has been handled by the internal affairs service.”

Last May, Sinas drew public ire over a mañanita at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City that allegedly violated the 10-people limit on gatherings to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Despite the controversy, President Duterte said he would not remove the then National Capital Region Police Office chief from his post, saying it was not his fault that his subordinates serenaded him on his birthday.

Sinas also made headlines last July over his viral confrontation with a family of a retired police officer that he and his men asked to leave from a government compound in Taguig City./PN
