BACOLOD City – IPM Construction and Development Corp. apologized to Bacolodnons for its poor performance as garbage collector.
The contractor came up with a new schedule for collection in subdivisions, which has recently become a subject of complaints.
Jan Vincent Mercado, senior vice president for the IPM’s Solid Waste Management Division, said “thank you” and “sorry.”
“Right now we [are] giving you the final schedule after a study and evaluation,” Mercado told the press on Monday.
Under the new schedule that took effect on the same day, garbage in subdivisions will be gathered during the day. The IPM will collect at night only when it responds to a call, said Mercado.
With 57 garbage trucks, 61 drivers and 207 collectors, or paleros, the contractor hopes to improve, he said.
Mercado asked the residents to make their garbage ready for pickup the night before.
Under a P59.4-million environmental sanitary service contract, the city government hired the IPM to collect garbage from Sept. 2 to Dec. 31 on a “total cleanup” basis (no sanitary landfill maintenance).
Meanwhile, Department of Public Services (DPS) head Nelson Sedillo stressed he was submitting a monthly monitoring report to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
In a privilege speech, Councilor Ricardo Tan claimed the DPS has not yet complied with the colatilla of the Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution granting Leonardia the authority to enter into a contract with the IPM.
The DPS must inform the city council about the contractor’s activities, the colatilla stated.
Sedillo said he submits his report first to Leonardia, his boss under the local executive branch and at the same time the chairman of the city’s Solid Waste Management Board./PN
