KALIBO, Aklan – More than a hundred drug suspects were caught in operations the Aklan Police Provincial Office’s (APPO) staged in line with Oplan Double Barrel.
The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) intensified antidrug campaign under the Duterte administration started on July 1.
As of Oct. 13, a total of 110 drug suspects were arrested, APPO records showed.
From Jan. 1 to June 30, 77 drug suspects were apprehended in Oplan Lambat Sibat, the PNP’s “deliberate, programmatic and sustained” operations.
These make for a total of 187 drug suspects caught across Aklan nine months into the year, police records showed.
In the same period in 2015, only 46 drug suspects were caught.
Among the arrested drug suspects so far this year, 49 were alleged users, while 138 were suspected pushers.
No drug suspect was killed in police operations in Aklan so far this year.
Police also seized P1,871,112.83 worth of shabu and marijuana (Dangerous Drugs Board value) from Jan. 1 to Oct. 13.
Of the total, P1,418,609.33 worth (171.99 grams of shabu and 59.64 grams of marijuana) were recovered from Jan. 1 to June 30.
Under Oplan Double Barrel from July 1 to Oct. 13, 73.33 grams of shabu and 52.96 grams of marijuana worth P452,503.50 were seized.
Shabu remained to be the main choice for drug abuse in the Philippines in 2015, with more than 95 percent cases related to that drug, data from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency revealed. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
