ILOILO City – With a cloud of doubt hanging over the volleyball careers of star players Mika Reyes and Rachel Daquis the two have offered a reassuring sound bite to their throes of fans: “We will still play.”
The PLDT Home Ultera ambassadors Daquis and Reyes were in Iloilo on Saturday for the friendly collision of two all-star teams: the Ateneo Lady Eagles-led Team Blue and the De La Salle University Lady Spikers-backed Green team.
With her former squad, the RC Cola-Lady Army Troopers decimated by military training requirements, Daquis was released to free agency and is on the market for a new team.
Meanwhile, the management of recent DLSU graduate Reyes hinted in December that she may not be staying with the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers for long, as many other squads have expressed interest in her services.
“Maglalaro pa kami. Me and Mika will play parin,” Daquis told Panay News in an exclusive interview. “We don’t know yet kung anong teams. It’s gonna be a surprise. Just watch out for it.”
Aside from attending the match, the duo also visited the Ramon Avanceña National High School in Villa Arevalo for a volleyball outreach program.
Reyes shares that this marks her third time in Iloilo, while it’s only Daquis’ second visit to the city.
PLDT marketing manager Lester Dy shares that their company is glad to be contributing to the grassroots sports program of Iloilo and partner with local government units to do their share in aiding the city.
“One day lang yung na-maximize namin, so okay naman na napuntahan namin ang ibang branches ng PLDT dito tapos yung Ramon Avanceña National High School,” said Daquis. “Masaya na nakapag-share rin kami ng konting inspiration.”
Daquis and Reyes offered some advice for aspiring Ilonggo and Ilongga volleyball players.
“Dream big, nagsa-start naman palagi sa baba, sa zero. Mag dream lang talaga at i-pursue nila, wag sila susuko,” shared Daquis.
“Be patient, most of the time it comes down to perseverance,” ended Reyes./PN
