BACOLOD City – “We’re all set for the MassKara festivities.”
These were the words of Bacolod City Police Office director Senior Superintendetn Jack Wanky after a simulation at the public plaza and the Bacolod Government Center yesterday.
The drill was a preparation for the 22-day MassKara Festival in the city.
“This is a world-class event. We expect the influx of local and foreign tourists, that is why we are doing our best to ensure public safety,” said Wanky.
The simulation review team was led by Senior Superintendent Augustus Rhoderick Alba, chief of the Operations and Plans Division of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Representatives of government agencies and other stakeholders attended the simulation.
Ways to enhance the strategies on different scenarios during the MassKara Festival were discussed.
PRO-6 will assign 250 police officers to guard the celebration while the Regional Public Safety Battalion 6, 150, the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, 100, and the Philippine Army, 15.
A total of 200 army reservists and 250 volunteers will also augment the BCPO’s 673 personnel during the festival.
Wanky said he requested K9 units from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Army.
Wanky also sent a gun ban request to the Philippine National Police headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The request, when approved, will also ban people from bringing other deadly weapons such as pointed and hard objects, belts with knives, and bottled beer. The use of drones will not be allowed, too.
Wanky encouraged the public to help the police by reporting suspicious actions or persons./PN
