BACOLOD City – Officers of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is hunting Negros Occidental’s top drug suspect Ricky Serenio after he was tagged to a shooting incident on Lacson Street in Barangay Mandalagan.
The shooting happened at around 12:45 a.m. yesterday, a Police Station 3 report showed.
The 29-year-old Joen Villacoer of Barangay 1 was injured. He sustained gunshot wounds on the left leg and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in the city where he was currently under treatment, the report further stated.
He was driving a motorcycle when the suspects on board another motorcycle fired at him, Villacoer told the police.
Villacoer identified one of the suspects as the 35-year-old Serenio. The other suspect was still unidentified as of this writing.
Senior Inspector Jun Ray Batadlan, commander of Police Station 3, said personal grudge was the motive in the shooting.
Serenio, a self-confessed “paymaster” of the notorious Berya drug cartel, came out of prison after paying a P720,000 bail for charges of illegal possession of explosives, illegal possession of firearms and grave coercion.
No drug charge was filed against Serenio despite admitting to paying off politicians and cops to protect his drug group.
On Oct. 18, Serenio executed an affidavit before the La Carlota City Prosecutor’s Office linking Sen. Franklin Drilon and former Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas to the illegal drug trade.
Serenio accused Drilon and Roxas of attempting to take over the Berya drug group in 2015.
Serenio added that Melvin Odicta, one of Iloilo’s former top drug lord, told him about Drilon and Roxas’ plan to “penetrate the illegal drug market in the entire Negros Island.”
Odicta and wife Meriam were shot dead in Aklan in August last year./PN
