BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on its final reading an ordinance institutionalizing the “whistle for protection” scheme that will serve as a safety device for children with disabilities.
The ordinance – which Councilor Em Ang authored – was approved last week.
Ang said the new ordinance aims to promote and protect the rights of children with disabilities.
The “whistle for protection” scheme will also enhance the safety measures observed by parents, caregivers, service providers, and partners in securing children with disabilities, Ang added.
She stressed that children do not only have rights to health, nutrition and education, they also have rights to protection, freedom from violence and exploitation, and to a safe and supportive environment./PN
