ILOILO City – The city government has named 14 residents as The Outstanding Women of Iloilo City (TOWIL) for this year.
The awarding ceremony will be held at Robinsons Place Iloilo on March 27, 4 p.m.
“The city government recognizes the role of women in our society and we want to give them the recognition they deserve,” said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
This year’s awardees and the sectors they represent are the following:
* Helen Romero – professional
* Dr. Mary Barby Badayos Jover – academe
* Rhea Inocencio-Peñaflorida – business
* Liberty Porras – culture and arts
* Dr. Marlyn Convocar – government service
* Rysty Ann Espinosa- Borja – judiciary
* Ma. Ramelia Vasquez – media
* Dr. Ellen Dumayas-Abelita – medical
* Ivy Gurrea – nongovernment or civic organization
* Senior Police Officer 3 Ruth Laudato – protective service
* Emma Victoria – religious
* Floramie Navales – sports
* Stella Muzones – persons with disability
* Japhet Grace Moleta – for volunteerism
The annual TOWIL is in line with the celebration of Women’s Month this March. It aims to honor women who have made exemplary contributions to the metropolis, said City Population Officer Mary Ann Ramos, co-chairman of the search.
Now on its 10th year, TOWIL is in partnership with the Gender and Development Program and the Committee on Women and Family Relations of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The search is open to all women of legal age who have made a major impact or contribution and have given pride and honor to Iloilo City.
She must be a member or officer of an organization or a person who has made significant accomplishments in a particular field of endeavor that contributed to the welfare and upliftment of status of women in particular, and in the promotion of a gender fair society in general.
