ROXAS City – The gubernatorial race in Capiz province is a three-cornered fight.
Two are challenging incumbent Gov. Esteban “Nonoy” Evan Contreras who is seeking re-election under the ruling PDP-Laban party. They are three-termer Capiz 2nd District congressman Fredenil Castro of Lakas-CMD (in alliance with the Liberal Party or LP) and Elmer Villasis of Partido Federal of Pilipinas (PFP).
For vice governor, incumbent James Magbanua is seeking re-election. He is being challenged by former governor Victor Tanco Sr. of PDP-Laban, Ricardo Bascos of PFP, and Reymar Xavier Pimentel, an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, four personalities are gunning for Capiz’s 1st District congressman. They are reelectionist Cong. Emmnuel “Tawi” Billones Sr. who is running under the LP, retired provincial government engineer Edgar Agana who filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) under People’s Reform Party (PRP), Ambrosio Diapo of Partido Pederalismo ng Maharlika and incumbent Pontevedra mayor Evan “Dodoy” Contreras of PDP-Laban.
For Capiz’s 2nd District representative, five are vying for the post. They are Mambusao mayor Leodegario Labao Jr. of PDP-Laban, Maria Vilma Besana of PFP, former congresswoman Jane Castro of Lakas-CMD, Ronilo Esteves of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan, and Provincial Board member Eleufer Martinez of the Progressive Movement for the Development Initiative (PROMDI).
For Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) members, 15 aspiring candidates filed their COCs for the 1st District BMs and 16 for the 2nd District.
IN ROXAS CITY
Incumbent Roxas City mayor Ronnie Dadivas is seeking reelection with his tandem for vice mayor, Culasi punong barangay Inday Teresa Almalbis under the LP.
Challenging Dadivas is former Provincial Board member Rommel Lastimoso who filed his COC under PDP-Laban while for vice mayor, Almalbis’ challengers are Councilor Jericho Celino under Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma and former city councilor Atty. Powell del Rosario of PDP-Laban.
For Roxas City councilor, a total of 28 persons filed their COCs. Under the LP slate, the bets are Dok Pip Acepcion, Jaime Altavas, Alvin Balgos Tiangco, Herbert “Koks” Chu, Rey Magallanes, Bordoy “Bords” Viterbo, and incumbent councilors Paul Ivan Baticados, Atty. Garry Potato, Roberto Ignacio, and John Paul Arcenas./PN
