ILOILO – A man was found dead in a forest in Barangay Cabugao, New Lucena around 7 a.m. yesterday, Nov. 13.
The deceased was identified as Eduardo Siron, a resident of the town’s Barangay Guinobatan.
A resident came across Siron’s lifeless body while he was gathering firewood in the area, according to Captain Rogie Panela, officer-in-charge of the New Lucena Municipal Police Station.
The 70-year-old tricycle driver was headed towards Barangay Cabugao, where he was possibly contracted for a ride, surveillance camera footage from the area taken around 2 p.m. on Sunday showed. It further revealed that Siron had a backrider and was seemingly followed by two motorcycle-riding men.
Police found bloodstains on the road, suggesting that the victim may have been attacked before being left in the forest.
His vehicle was abandoned around 100 meters away from the victim’s body.
Blood-stained wooden sticks were also found near Siron’s body, which showed signs of fatal head blows.
The New Lucena police believed there were at least two persons of interest.
