ILOILO City – The rehabilitation of key aviation gateways in Western Visayas, including Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan town and Roxas Airport in Capiz, is now in full swing as part of a broader regional modernization drive aimed at improving passenger safety, efficiency, and travel experience, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Antique Airport Development Project in San Jose de Buenavista, Marcos confirmed that major upgrades are currently underway at Iloilo International Airport, covering the passenger terminal building, escalators, flight information display systems, and the baggage handling system.
He added that runway asphalting is also ongoing to further enhance aviation safety.
Similar rehabilitation works, particularly runway asphalting, are likewise being carried out at Roxas Airport, Marcos said, underscoring the administration’s push to modernize airport infrastructure across the region.
The President said the Antique airport project forms part of a larger Western Visayas modernization program that seeks to improve connectivity, tourism, and regional development.
He described the airport projects as proof that when public funds are spent properly, government can deliver faster, more cost-efficient, and higher-quality infrastructure.
