KALIBO, Aklan – The coastal waters of Western Visayas are free from the red tide toxin, according to the latest Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) bulletin.
The BFAR shellfish bulletin No. 34 showed that the coastal waters of Altavas, Batan and New Washington in Aklan, and Pilar, Panay, President Roxas, Sapian, and Ivisan towns and Roxas City in Capiz do no longer have the red tide toxin.
BFAR said shellfishes, squids, crabs, shrimps, and alamang collected in these areas are now safe to eat.
The bulletin also showed that the waters in E.B. Magalona and Hinigaran towns and Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, and Victorias cities in Negros Occidental continue to be red tide-free.
On Oct. 12, the BFAR lifted the shellfish ban in the coastal waters of the Gigantes group of islands in Carles, Iloilo.
The shellfish ban continues to be in effect in the coastal waters of Milagros and Mandaon in Masbate, Matarinao Bay in Eastern Samar, Puerto Princesa Bay in Palawan, Daram Island and Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar, Maqueda Bay and Villareal Bay in Samar, Carigara Bay in Leyte, and Malampaya Sound and Taytay in Palawan.
