ILOILO City – All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively, in Western Visayas were “generally peaceful and orderly,” according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
“We have not received information on major crime incidents,” said PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Gilbert Gorero.
PRO-6 director Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag commended police units as well as local governments, civic groups, non-government organizations and other government agencies for their vigilance.
He also cited the public for their cooperation.
“The heavy rains did not stop all police units from diligently performing their respective tasks,” said Binag.
The PRO-6 urged Ilonggos to continue cooperating with the police to maintain Western Visayas’ being a safe place to live, work and do business.
Days prior to Nov. 1 and 2, the PRO-6 came out with security tips for the public to observe.
To achieve the goal of “zero crime”, it also deployed 95 percent of its police force in the field.
In this city, there were roving patrols “to maximize police presence in crowded areas near cemeteries, said Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, public information officer of the Iloilo City Police Office.
The PRO-6 coordinated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Highway Patrol Group, Aviation Group, Maritime Group, Bureau of Fire Protection, and volunteer groups.
