WV girl libero to play for UP Lady Maroons

ILOCOS Sur – Western Visayas’ secondary girls volleyball team’s top libero Jeanny Noh Padilla already committed to play for University of the Philippines Lady Maroons.

Padilla, a native of Bacolod City, is an incoming Grade 12 student in Bacolod Tay Tung High School. She will suit up for Lady Maroons in UAAP Season 82 in 2020.

Tay Tung vice president for sports Jose Montalbo told Panay News Padilla accepted Lady Maroons’ offer after a meeting during the 61st Palarong Pambansa last week.

Matagal nang gusto ni (Lady Maroons head coach Godfrey) Okomu si Jeanny since he saw her play in an exhibition game in Manila,” Montalbo said.

Padilla has two reasons for accepting the UP offer: quality of education at the university and a chance to better her volleyball career.

Malaking opportunity para sa akin na makapagaral sa UP since UP is a well-respected university,” said the 17-year-old.

“Aside from that, maganda rin ang volleyball program ng UP, and I see myself improving as a libero under coach Okomu,” she said. “I will do my best to show them na hindi sila nagkamali sa pagkuha sa akin.”

Padilla will be the second Tay Tung player to move to Lady Maroons after Ilongga setter Marianne Sotomil, who is set to debut in UAAP Season 81 early next year./PN
