ILOILO – Western Visayas is hosting the launch of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017–2022 on May 2 in Iloilo City.

The launch will be held along with the NNC Governing Board meeting that Health secretary Paulyn Jean Ubial, board chairwoman, will preside, said National Nutrition Council (NNC) regional director Nona Tad-y.

The PPAN 2017–2022 is a results-based plan designed to stem the stagnating and worsening wasting, stunting, and micronutrient deficiencies, and overweight and obesity in the Philippines.

It is an integral part of the Philippine Development Plan for 2017-2022, which aims to address inequities in opportunities and outcomes, particularly for the poor, and improving human development outcomes in health, nutrition and education.

Ubial will lead the PPAN launch. Assistant Health secretary and NNC executive director Maria Bernardita T. Flores is also expected to attend.

Regional media groups organized by the NNC will gather during the launch to strengthen the dissemination of information on health and nutrition programs of the government, said Tad-y. (PNA)
