WVMC patient tests positive for COVID

ILOILO City – A 42-year old woman who gave birth at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district on July 31 tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Her test result was released on Sunday morning, Aug. 2.

By afternoon, the WVMC management locked down its OB-Emergency Room, OB-Ward, delivery room and GEO (Gyne, ENT and Opta) ward.

The lockdown was for 48 hours during which these areas were decontaminated, according to Dr. Joseph Dean Nicolo, medical center chief.

“Temporarily waay kami anay ‘gabaton OB patients unless extreme emergency,” said Nicolo.

He added: “Probably within two to three days maka-resume na kami operation.”

The woman, a resident of Mandurriao, was asymptomatic.  She was rushed to the delivery room because she was already about to give birth.
