ILOILO City – The Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Meet 2024 commenced on June 12 in Antique, featuring over 1,300 coaches and student-athletes from 45 private schools.
The event, running until June 15, is hosted at St. Anthony’s College (SAC) and the Binirayan Sports Complex.
Regional winners will have the opportunity to represent Western Visayas at the National PRISAA Games 2024, scheduled from July 20 to 26 in Legazpi City, Albay.
The opening ceremony on June 12 featured a parade of delegates from Antique, Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo showcasing their sports uniforms.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Edward Hayco, speaking at a press conference on June 11, emphasized the importance of PRISAA as a stepping stone for student-athletes aiming for Olympic success.
He encouraged the athletes to aspire beyond regional and national levels, citing Hidilyn Diaz, the country’s first Olympic gold medalist who began her career in PRISAA, as an inspiration.
Over the next few days, participants will compete, showcasing their skills and determination with hopes of advancing to the national level and possibly beyond./PN
