NEGROS Occidental cruised to its second straight win in the 2018 WVPRISAA secondary girls volleyball, beating Capiz 25-5, 25-7 yesterday at the Iloilo Doctors’ College covered court in Iloilo City.
Negros head coach Ian Macariola tweaked their lineup with Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat and Erika Deloria, and this led the team to a 2-0 start – and the eventual lopsided outcome.
“We just went unconventional in this game, fielding in our second unit to give them court time and give our starters additional rest since sunud-sunod rin ang tournaments,” said Macariola.
On Saturday the Negrenses debuted with a 25-10, 25-12 victory over Kalibo. Their veterans Alyssa Bertolano, Joan Marie Monares, Marianne Sotomil and Shane Carmona led the offense.
Negros hopes to complete a sweep in the eliminations when it faces Iloilo today.
In other matches, Capiz pulled off an upset over Iloilo in secondary boys volleyball, but the latter province – led by Glaudine Trongcoso – cruised to a straight-set win over Negros Occidental in the women’s tertiary level./PN
