SAN JOSE, Antique – Athletes from the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) continue to make waves with the 2017 edition of the Palarong Pambansa winding down to a close today, but the Calabarzon delegation has other plans.
From athletics, WVRAA produced three more gold medals courtesy of Kenn Ranim in the elementary boys’ triple jump, Edna Magtubo in the elementary girls’ 1500-meter run and Malou Davasol in javelin throw.
WVRAA also claimed three gold medals from the taekwondo event with triumphs from Adriano Horlador in the flyweight division, Ramil Salarda in light heavyweight and Mikaila Montinola in individual poomsae.
Aklanon swimming sensation Kyla Soguilon continued to add to her gold medal total after finishing first in the elementary girls’ 12 and under 50-meter backstroke and 200-meter individual medley events.
Angie Nicole Reyes has also captured two gold medals from arnis in the anyo individual event double weapon arnis and espada y daga, while triplets John Clark, John Carl and John Christian Segutier had their second gold in team espada y daga.
Other gold medal winners for the host team are Abad Supena Jr in 9-ball billiards event, Gullifer Clemente in swimming and the 4×100-meter athletics team of Mark Roy Bartolome, Ivan Gaylan, Reynante Delandra and Zyron Palec.
Silver medalists are Mary Ledel De Guzman espada y daga arnis, Jade Delariarte in elementary girls’ singles tennis and taekwondo jins Jed Roncal (featherweight) and JV Anthony Villaron (middleweight).
Bronze medalists are taekwondo jins Angela Joy Bermejo (over 144-152 cm), Chriss Dinero (160-168 cm), athletics’ Mark Roy Bartolome (400-m dash), Renato Marfa (110-m hurdles), Kennard Alarba (100-m dash) and Edraline Celestial (1500-m run), swimmers’ Clemente, Moies Bitoonon, Earl Dublas and Jiro Duron (13-17 relay) and gymnast Lennon Chiva, Walter Petipet and Roger Randera (team event).
As of 8 p.m. Friday, WVRAA has 36 gold, 25 silver and 37 bronze medals for third place behind NCRAA’s 93-63-43 and surging Calabarzon’s 37-56-53. NIRAA is at sixth with 23-23-35./PN
