ILOILO City – SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has breached the high walls of Camp Delgado, the headquarters of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) here.
Three offices were locked down for decontamination – those of Regional Police Director, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan; the Regional Comptrollership Division and Regional Community Affairs and Development Division.
A female non-uniformed personnel and two police officers tested positive for the virus.
The civilian personnel was a resident of Pavia, Iloilo and assigned at Pamuspusan’s office.
She was tasked with disinfecting Pamuspusan’s personal belongings, according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson.
On the other hand, one of the two infected police officers was assigned at the Regional Comptrollership Division and had the rank of Police Captain.
The other was Police Staff Sergeant assigned at the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division.
The civilian personnel, asymptomatic, is now at the quarantine facility of Pavia. The PRO-6 referred her there.
The Police Staff Sergeant, a resident of Banate, Iloilo, was taken to the Western Visayas Sanitarium in Santa Barbara town. He complained of having a sort of sore throat.
The Police Captain, meanwhile, was referred to Iloilo City’s quarantine facility, he being a resident of the city.
Both police officers were asymptomatic, too.
The three were part of the over 70 PRO-6 personnel who underwent COVID testing on Aug. 15, an initiative of the regional police office.
Pamuspusan and all police officers in the three PRO-6 offices underwent COVID tests yesterday. They would be staying in Camp Delgado and wait for the results.
According to Malong, the PRO-6 received the test results of the two policemen and the civilian personnel late Monday afternoon. The three were immediately quarantined.
These cases brought to 19 the number of PRO-6 personnel with COVID-19 since the pandemic started./PN
