SAN JOSE, Antique – The Voice Kids Season 3 grand winner Joshua Oliveros, a 12-year-old boy from Hamtic, Antique, is a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary.

He joined the singing contest to fulfill his dream of having a nice house and a happy family, he said in an interview.

But more than the prize of P2 million, a brand new house and lot, singing contract, pangkabuhayan (livelihood) package and a lot more, he said he also achieved his dream of uniting with her mother and other siblings. He had been separated from them since he was six years old.

Joshua’s mom Maribel left them when he was six for some personal reasons and later on worked in Manila while his two other siblings lived with relatives (one in Mindoro and the other in San Jose, the capital of Antique).

When he was in Grade 5, Joshua went to Manila with his father Joseph, leaving his two other siblings in Hamtic.
Before joining Voice Kids Season 3, Joshua lived as an ordinary boy in Barangay Poblacion 3, Hamtic. His father used to work as a carpenter in their neighborhood.

The Oliveros family has been an active member of the Pantawid Pamilya since 2009. They avail themselves of cash grants from the government to support the children’s education and health needs.

Prior to his joining Voice Kids, Joshua was a consistent contender in singing competitions either in school or community activities, said Ma. Magdalena Bandiola, music mentor of the boy since Grade 3.

Francis John Gabawa of Hamtic and coordinator of Belison National School Special Program in the Arts also spoke well of Joshua’s performance during the Festival of Talents and Hantikan Festival.

Joshua is a talent of local radio station DyKA that has a “Haranahan” program every Saturday evening.
His excellent rendition of the song Habang May Buhay made Broadway star and coach Leah Salonga push the button and turned the Voice chair for him during the blind audition. That set off his journey to fame.

Supporters, friends and acquaintances here and abroad and everyone who believed in his talent went out of their way to show their support. Antiqueños in particular, local officials, media, church leaders, students, private groups and ordinary citizens likewise campaigned for him.
Joshua serves as an inspiration to other children. Despite economic difficulties, he has not lost his determination to achieve his dream, said Social Worker Christian Baldonasa of Pantawid Pamilya. (PIA-Antique/PN)
