MANILA — Carlos Yulo reclaimed the Asian floor exercise crown in dominant fashion, leading a historic double podium finish for the Philippines as younger brother Karl Eldrew Yulo captured bronze at the 2026 Asian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Zunyi, China on Saturday.

The two-time Olympic champion delivered a gold medal-winning performance in the men’s floor exercise final, scoring 14.700 points to outclass a strong field from Asia’s gymnastics powerhouses and mark the first time the Yulo brothers stood together on the podium in a senior Asian Championships event.

Japan’s Shoma Tsukiyama settled for silver with 14.600 points, while Eldrew secured bronze with 14.300 points in a breakthrough performance that underscored the Philippines’ growing stature in artistic gymnastics.

Carlos, one of Asia’s most decorated gymnasts, showcased his trademark precision and difficulty, earning a 6.0 difficulty score and an 8.700 execution mark to reclaim the continental title in one of his strongest events.

The victory returned Carlos to the top of the Asian floor exercise rankings and added another major achievement to his already glittering career.
Eldrew, meanwhile, delivered a career-defining performance to earn his first medal in the senior Asian Championships. The younger Yulo posted a 5.5 difficulty score and matched his brother’s 8.700 execution mark to finish third overall.

China’s Li Hongyan narrowly missed a podium finish after scoring 14.066 points, while compatriot Yang Haonan placed fifth with 13.933.

The Yulo brothers’ remarkable podium finish provided a major boost to the Philippine campaign in the continental meet and highlighted the emergence of a new generation of Filipino gymnasts capable of challenging Asia’s best.

Carlos remains in contention for additional medals as he advances to two more apparatus finals on the tournament’s final day, while Eldrew is also set to compete in another event final./PN
