BACOLOD City – More Negros Island police officers were being linked to the illegal drug trade.

Drug personalities who surrendered to the police and some concerned citizens were disclosing more names, Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban said.

“Every day, the list grows,” the regional police director claimed. “And I’ve been receiving texts from outside sources about their identities.”

Gumban will meet with Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Philippine National Police chief, on Dec. 8 to discuss the list of “narco-cops” in Negros.

He said he will personally submit the “validated” names to the national headquarters.

The list had undergone deliberation and confirmation under the intelligence unit of the Police Regional Office 18, stressed Gumban.

Once the national headquarters further validates the list, the officers named in it will be relieved from their posts, he said.

Twenty-eight officers in Negros Island were already relieved due to their alleged involvement in the drug trade.

Seven were relieved effective Oct. 26, another seven on Nov. 16 and 14 more on Nov. 28.

Previously assigned in Negros Occidental and the regional headquarters, they were reassigned to offices in Cordillera, Mindanao and Northern Luzon, and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao./PN
