Public hearings set for new RPT rates

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on appropriations and finance set a series of public hearings for the proposed market value update of real properties in the city.

The public hearings will be on Sept. 26, 27 and 28, 9:30 a.m. at the SP session hall at the Bacolod City Government Center.

The public hearings will also discuss real property tax (RPT) administration, said Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the SP committee on appropriations and finance.

The proposed ordinance was approved during its first reading on Sept. 6.

Distrito said the proposal was posted three days after the SP committee’s approval.

“We posted it in conspicuous places: the old city hall, the Bacolod City Government Center, Central market, Libertad public market, and barangay halls,” said Distrito.

The revised RPT rates had already been reviewed by the regional director of the Department of Finance and endorsed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to the SP, Distrito explained.

The last RPT market value update was declared null and void by the Department of Justice after it was not published in local dailies or posted in at least two public places in the city.

“One good thing about this proposal is that it complied with the Local Government Code’s requirements,” said Distrito.

Under the law, RPT rates must be updated every three years./PN
