ILOILO – Two beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) were arrested for illegal cockfighting in Barangay Cubay, San Enrique town on Wednesday morning, Nov. 30.
Hermineldo Pama, 65, and Joel Agustin, 69, were both residents of the town’s Barangay Garita.
San Enrique Municipal Police Station chief, Police Major Gilbert Baldevarona, confirmed that they were 4Ps beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the gaffer, or promoter, of the illegal cockfighting was able to flee.
Seven fighting cocks and P1,000 bet money were recovered.
According to Baldevarona, the barangay celebrated its fiesta on Nov. 29.
Baldevarona reminded barangay officials and residents that cockfighting is prohibited. Violators face charges under the anti-illegal gambling law./PN
