ILOILO City – Two rape suspects detained at the lockup cell of the police station in Guimbal, Iloilo escaped.

Now, the municipal police chief, Inspector Antonio Monreal, and the duty jailer at the time of the escape, Police Officer 2 Pacifico Gelasian, face investigation.

The two inmates were Johnnel Emballado, 19, of Magsaysay Street, Guimbal and a 17-year-old lad of Libo-on Street, Dingle, Iloilo. They escaped around 11:07 p.m. on Monday.

Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, police provincial director, ordered a probe.

The two inmates were allowed to go out of their cell to eat at the police station’s kitchen, initial investigation showed. They took the opportunity to flee.

Emballado, however, surrendered yesterday around 7:30 a.m.

The whereabouts of the other suspect remained unknown as of this writing.

“Hindi pwedeng ilabas ang mga inmates (from their cell),” said Tuzon.

The two inmates were arrested on Sunday morning. They were tagged in the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Barangay Bagumbayan, Guimbal.

They denied raping the girl./PN
