ILOILO City – The two men shot to death in Barangay Tiring, Cabatuan, Iloilo on Monday night were in the drug watch list of the Iloilo Police Provincial office (IPPO).
The 36-year-old Jonathan Peñafiel of R. Mapa Street, Mandurriao district and Michael Malones, 29, of Barangay Magdalo, La Paz district were “new drug personalities”, according to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, IPPO director.
“We received information of their operation in our area. We were supposed to forward their names to the Iloilo City police since they were from the city,” added Tayaba.
Text messages from Malones’ mobile phone that the police had retrieved showed somebody ordered half a kilo of shabu.
Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) spokesperson Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines said Malones and Peñafiel were not in their drug watch list.
“It was possible they were operating in Iloilo province,” said Sangines yesterday.
The ICPO is willing to help the IPPO solve the case, she added.
Malones and Peñafiel were found dead around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 21. Malones had six gunshot wounds on the body. Peñafiel, on the other hand, had gunshot wounds on the body and forehead.
A resident of Barangay Tiring claimed seeing a silver pickup stop and hearing persons inside the vehicle arguing prior to the discovery of the bodies.
Several bursts of gunfire were also heard before the pickup left, the resident added.
