2 wounded in Arevalo shooting; gunman at large

ILOILO City – Two men were wounded after a 48-year-old man opened fire during an altercation in Barangay Dulonan, Arevalo district on Monday night, September 7.

Police identified the victims as aliases “Leo,” 18, who sustained a gunshot wound to the hand, and “Jorge,” 32, who was hit in the abdomen.

The suspect, identified as alias “Nelo,” remained at large as of press time. All three individuals involved are residents of the same barangay.

According to Police Major Paul Vincent Pendon, chief of the Iloilo City Police Station 6 (Arevalo), the bullet first struck Leo’s hand before penetrating Jorge’s abdomen.

Pendon disclosed the target of the attack was a certain alias “John.”

A heated argument and commotion erupted between Nelo and John. Upon seeing this, John’s relatives – Leo and Jorge – responded to intervene, prompting Nelo to draw a firearm and shoot them.

Both victims were rushed to the hospital after the incident.

Pendon said the violent confrontation stemmed from a long-standing personal grudge between the suspect and John./PN
