The 2020 FEDA International Scheveningen Tournament, also known as the Spain vs World event, got underway Nov. 30 at the small tourist resort of Los Cancajos in La Palma Island in Spain with a Spanish quintet tangling with five select strong European grandmasters .
The classical event has GMs David Anton Guijarro (2675), Jaime Santos Latasa (2600), Ivan Salgado Lopez (2593), Miguel Santos Ruiz (2581), and Renier Vazquez Igarza (2556) playing for the Spanish side, and GMs Ivan Cheparinov (2688), Anton Korobov (2683), Pavel Eljanov (2672), Jorden Van Foreest (2671) and Romain Edouard (2640) for the World team. The two squads play a Scheveningen system where each player on one team plays each player on the other. The team with the highest number of games won is the winner.
After three rounds of play, the World is comfortably leading the Spaniards, 9½-5½, with seven rounds to go. Van Foreest is the leading scorer for the World with 2½ points.
