SAN JOSE, Antique – Antique’s current active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) stood at 229 as of April 7, data from the Antique Provincial Health Office showed.
Since the start of the pandemic in March last year, the province had recorded 383 cases; 164 recovered while eight died.
Of the 383 patients, 339 were local cases, seven were returning overseas Filipinos, 19 were locally stranded individuals, and another 19 were cases reported/diagnosed in Antique but with the virus believed to have been contracted outside the province.
Antique started experiencing a surge in infections last week after cockfights were conducted in the municipalities of San Jose and Sibalom (minimum public health standards were not followed such as physical distancing and the wearing of facemask and face shield).
“The best solution is to stay home. Do not panic. Himuon naton ang ginhimu naton for the past year,” said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.
The provincial government recently subjected the staff of the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test after 24 of its staff tested positive for COVID-19.
Cadiao also discouraged Antiqueños from holding large gatherings where the coronavirus could easily be transmitted./PN
