JAMINDAN, Capiz – In Barangay Agcagay here on April 6, a farmer picking fruits from a tall star apple tree fell to the ground and died.
The 56-year-old Antonio Ocate hit the stony ground below and fractured his ribs. He may have bled internally, too.
According to Police Staff Sergeant Lou Jacinto Robles, investigator of the Jamindan police station, a tree branch on which Ocate perched himself broke.
He was picking star apples with the intention of selling them afterwards, the farmers’ acquaintances told the police.
The star apple tree was some 15 feet tall.
Ocate was declared “dead on arrival” by the attending physician of the Jamindan rural health unit.
The night before he fell from the tree and died, Ocate was binge drinking with friends, police learned./PN
